The Nigeria Military, Police Massacre Unarmed Civilians IPOB Family in Onitsha

Eyewitness
We peacefully evangelising when the fresh attack by police starts releasing bullets on us. We do nothing to them, we never destroy anything , we also control the traffic . What they only did is just open fire on us. This is an evil formed by the president because they don't have any for killing of Biafrans now, We are ready to revenge back most especially the president and his extended must suffer this and also the inspector general of police must prosecuted for this. This call for WAR! WAR! WAR!!! The zoo called Nigeria must fall now. They have done their worst.

No fewer than three persons were reportedly killed following a clash between Navy personnel and members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra  (IPOB) in Onitsha, Anambra State.

It was gathered that some members of Biafra were allegedly killed on Sunday afternoon during a clash with the men of the Nigerian Navy at Onitsha.

Though there were conflicting reports as regard the casualty figure following the clash  with IPOB members, who were said to be evangelizing  to the people about the actualisation of Biafra.

Some sources said as many as 10 persons were shot dead while other sources said  between three and  five persons were  allegedly killed when the Naval officers from the Odekpe  Naval Post but drafted to Uga junction for on the spot check allegedly had misunderstanding that led to the bloody clash near Premier Breweries Onitsha along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.

An eyewitness, who is also a member of IPOB, who pleaded anonymity said several other of their members sustained injures following the clash, saying that the dead bodies of their colleagues and the injured were taken to the Borromeo Hospital in Nkpor, near Onitsha.

The source said IPOB members started the match from Mgbuka Obosi through Owerri Road to Nkpor, then back to Upper Iweka and was heading to Bridge head when a detachment of Navy personnel at Uga, Junction allegedly attacked them, killing and injuring several members of the group.
He said the IPOB  members numbering about 3,000  remained calm  in the face of obvious provocation, insisting that nothing warranted  the unprovoked attack on the innocent people.

However, a top official of the group Daniel Nzekwe said that so far about five of their members were killed in the attack, but stated that he was still visiting the hospitals where injured ones were taken to  ascertain the actual figure of the dead members.

Meanwhile,  All efforts to get the Commander of the Naval Post as his number was not connecting while our reporter who visited their office was told that he commander was not around to comment on the incident.

However,  tension was building up in Onitaha, following the incident especially eyewitnesses confirmed that the attack was unprokoked and unwarranted. ENDS

Hausa/Fulani herdsmen kill 3 peace emissaries in Delta

Three persons have been killed and two others injured in renewed hostilities between Fulani herdsmen and residents of Okuke, a satellite village at Amorji in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The people of the community, it was gathered, had been at loggerheads with the herdsmen who they accused of destroying their farmlands and terrorizing them over the last three years.
An indigene of the community told newsmen that the herdsmen had threatened to chase the residents out of Okuke, a development which, he said, prompted Amorji to constitute a 15-man delegation to meet with them (the herdsmen) for a peace talk.
The community indigene, who craved anonymity, said the delegation was on the way for the peace talk when they were ambushed by herdsmen, who he alleged opened fire at them, killing three and inflicting gunshot injuries on two others.
He said one person was still missing and that those injured were receiving treatment at a hospital in Kwale, headquarters of the Ndokwa West Local Government Area, while the bodies of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary.
He lamented that indigenes of the community could no longer go to their farms or markets in neighbouring communities for fear of being ambushed and attacked by the armed herdsmen.
Police statement
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the killings and said the incident was a suspected reprisal attack.
She disclosed that a Fulani herdsman had earlier been reported killed in the community in the last one week.
Kalu said: “After some days, some of the villagers went to the police to complain that three of their indigenes were missing. A search party was raised and the bodies of three persons were found.”

NO NO NO We Biafrans Are Not And Were Never Ever Nigerians, But Were Forced By The Satan - Fredrick Lugard In 1914

This article is being published with the consent of the original writer - Ghettoman. His numerous Reggae music has aided tremendously in the propagation of the restoration of Biafra via his musics. The article below is an excerpt of his response to one of his fans with regards to his defined stand on the restoration of Biafra, his fatherland!!

Ghettoman

Greetings Brother Onipaa Jaisu!
I,m writing this as a reply to what you sent to our Music Page.
www.facebook.com/ghettomanlive
You have said it well and your contribution is respected but please, you must allow me and others to struggle for our Liberation. And you must wake up from your slumber. (https://youtu.be/cicB_y88jIs) I have seen many of your comments chasing my Posts but i purposely skipped them. Listen: 1st point is, We Biafrans are not and were never ever Nigerians NO NO NO. That we travel or do whatever we did or doing with Nigeria(Doc) is because we were forced in the Year 1914 by Fredrick Satan Luguard.and we are still being forced till date to use their relevant Documents. Since 1945 till date Millions of Biafrans/Igbos have been Massacred and have always been the victims in your so called Nigeria. Nigeria belongs to Hausa People not even to Yorubas. Yorubas must wake up and search for their own Nation. They can`t be Boy Boy forever.

Are you blind that you can not see how your people are being massacred? Are you deaf that you can not hear the Cry of the Sufferers? Well, you are my Elder and i must respect you but please do not project yourself with your so called Nigeria mentality. Many of my uncles, aunties and other relatives were Killed during the War. My Father was a Millionaire before the genocide (Biafra War). If really we were one, how come all the millions my father had in the Bank of Nigeria, only 20 Pounds was given to him after the War? About four or more of my Father`s houses were confiscated in Ugwuocha (Port Harcourt). My Father lived many years in Benue State Oturkpo and Makurdi where He Built many houses too even before he built the one we lived in. Today all were taken by your so called Nigerians.

Please, let us be truthful to ourselves. The Country where you are living today are made up of 8.5 Million people and you are living very happy and stress free there. Everything is well organized. In the year 1967 Biafra had a total population of 14 Million people, and still they were not allowed for self determination. Look:-- today 45 years after the genocide, Biafra has 32 to 36 Million people. And still all the problems that brought the war in the past 45 years have been discussed. WE are Biafrans. We are not and were never Nigerians. Nigerians are people from different countries like Chad, Niger, Cameroon, Mali, Ghana, etc. There is no place in the World i have seen such amount of Hatred as it is in Nigeria against Black Jews (Biafrans)

Please, how can you call someone who killed your fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters, uncles, aunties and in fact even animals in Biafra land a brother? Please, big brother! make more research before you talk. I,m not talking what i do not know but rather I,m talking from facts and realities that the so called Nigerians hate us like (Hitler hated the Jews). May I implore you to watch this video, https://youtu.be/iHDaHlTaHJw. That time, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Gen, Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi Ironsi (Igbos/Biafrans) were still struggling to keep Nigeria as one nation. Can you watch and listen to that elderly Northern elite/their Spiritual Leader? There are many more disturbing speeches more than this even recently another speech was made by Anuofia Coomasie saying that if Igbos try to secceed again, they will exterminate them all. Watch how they rant up and down about Radio Biafra while they commissioned Arewa24 and so many other Ethnic/Private Radios and TVs. Why are they then against us?

Please, stop fighting against Biafra/Biafrans because Biafra is a living righteous Spirit on earth, She is not just a Country, she is a Kingdom of God. Hausas hate us, Yorubas hate us,Tivs hate us. In fact all of them hate us simply because they say "we are very Intelligent", wise, hardworking and brilliant. Did we create ourselves? We built Nigeria, we developed Nigeria as it is today. Tell me that city or town in Nigeria that has been developed without the help of Igbo business men and women? Still they hate us, killing us everyday everywhere. Is it by force to be together as a nation? You mentioned Austria, good, What do you know about the history of Austria? In the 18th century, Austria were together with Italy,Slovenia,Hungary, Bulgaria, West Poland, Yugoslavia, Belgium,Netherlands and many more countries. How come they are just 8.5 Million today? In 1848 the Hungarian revolutionaries started to agitate for their self determination which finally led to the break up of all other countries you see or hear about today.

You can also read about Liechtenstein who were lately freed by Austria government. They are made up of a total of five hundred thousand people as a country. Now how come you are still blind? Wake up from your slumber. Biafran born children can not go to School and study. Even many of our women are forced into prostitution to make ends meet. Many of our young men are in prison all over the world. Some are struggling to make it or die while trying. A young Biafran was recently murdered by the Police in the same country you live. What was his offence? I,m very sad to hear any real Igbo/Biafra blood talking or reasoning like you. Thank you. Biafra Freedom is what we Need Now - www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYMj3tPE4eo

Dr Ikedife of “BHRI” Supreme Council of Elders under Buhari, It is too early to attack Buhari

A chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,Deputy Chairman, of Bilie Human Right Initiative and BVI Dr Dozie Ikedife has called on his kinsmen to wait for President Muhammadu Buhari to unveil his ministerial list before they accuse him of disregarding them.

He, however, admitted that the appointments made so far by President Buhari did not favour the South-East zone.

His reaction came following yesterday’s appointments by the President, which consist mostly of northerners.
According to Ikedife, if it were to be a matter of competence, Ndigbo can even provide 80 percent of Buhari’s cabinet.

“It is clear to everybody that so far, Ndigbo have not got a fair share of the appointments which Buhari has made. However, let us not be too hasty as he still has many appointments to make,” he said.
In his own reaction, former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, who spoke from the United States told The Nation that he was short of words.

“I don’t understand what is happening and the motivation for what is happening,” he said.
Also reacting, Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Chief Yinka Odumakin blamed the president for not including other regions in his appointments.

“When he visited the United States, he made it clear that those who gave him 97 per cent votes cannot have the same thing with those who gave him five per cent votes. I do not think it is the best thing considering the mood of the nation now. I think the earlier he realized that, the better for the country. He should realize that ‘inclusivity’ brings stability,” Odumakin said.

Radio Biafra is here to stay, The Nigeria govt is right to listen

There are those who believe that the Nigerian government’s response to the new Radio Biafra accusations and inflammatory rhetoric is giving life and legitimacy to an otherwise childish and self-defeating radio broadcast. However, Radio Biafra is a reflection of the state of Nigeria’s union no matter how dirty the picture may look.

The question to ask is whether Nigeria as a nation guarantees the right and privilege of citizenship to all its people, irrespective of tribe or religious affiliation and the answer is no. Another question to ask is whether a particular religion and tribe has been calling the shots in Nigeria since its inception as a nation and the answer is yes. The Hausa/Fulani and Islam dominate the socio-political consciousness of the nation Nigeria. The other tribes appear to have been cowed and subject to the dominant needs of the politically astute and better consensus-forming northern politico-religious establishment.

Generally, the politicians of southern Nigeria busy themselves competing and destroying each other. They behave like slaves in a ship fighting each other over rations the captain allows them to have. Some of these politicians seem to have a price and are easily influenced by promises of position, power and resources.

In the House of Assembly, the northern members, who are usually in the majority, do not usually break ranks when it comes to matters that unite them, for example, the issue of when a woman should be considered of marriage age. When you have good politicians or technocrats from the south, nobody comes to their support when they articulate honest policies, especially when the north is riled.
A northern governor virtually singlehandedly led to the removal of a minister [from the South East] in Nigeria because the minister’s utterance concerning the inaccuracy of previous censuses in the country was not north friendly. The vituperations of the governor against the minister sounded like something Radio Biafra might broadcast. He suggested the minister might be a chronic drunk since he headed a brewery before his appointment!

The Igbos, a rather industrious and adaptable people dominate the mercantile realm in Nigeria. There is a mischievous idea that any place you go in Nigeria and don’t find Igbos – leave the place fast. Right from the beginning of our nationhood, the leaders of northern Nigeria have articulated a policy of Igbo-containment. They are mainly found in segregated areas in the north called ‘Sabon Gari’ with other tribes.

Ahmadu Bello himself suggested that Igbos tend to take a mile when you give them an inch, hence the need to control their dominating influence in northern Nigeria especially in the sixties. The policy of Igbo containment appears to have been entrenched since then. The Igbos have been the victims of pogroms for decades, one of which led to a bitter civil war. When Christians are attacked in the north, [which is frequent] Igbos; who tend to be exclusively Christian bear the brunt of such attacks.

These attacks; mostly unprovoked, might be caused by something as frivolous as someone drawing a cartoon in Europe. Today, farmers in the South Eastern states suffer constant harassment by Fulani herdsmen who disrespect the laws of the land and its people. Grazing activities destroy crops, but when cattle rearers are challenged, they are not averse to the use of force, rape and murder to get their way – usually without any consequence.
The nomadic herdsmen seem to have a primordial sense of superiority when dealing with settlers in Nigeria.

Radio Biafra or the Biafran cause is the response of the Igbo people to obvious patent oppression in a nation they call home. Some describe Radio Biafra as childish, ignorant, and hate-filled, but the voice of desperation would not sound normal to those seemingly ‘unaffected’ by oppression. The government probably needs to address the Igbo question in Nigeria.

The break-up of Nigeria should be a last resort but for the country to move from its present comatose state there must be a return to true federalism with a less ‘all-powerful central government’. We have created so many non-viable states that are collapsing under a ‘give me my share’ local government and civil service.
For us to pretend that Radio Biafra and their grouse is simply some fringe eccentric broadcast without rhyme or reason is to condone the fundamental fault lines that prevent us from attaining true nationhood. However, the danger for ordinary Biafrans or Igbos looking for their daily bread is that the Radio broadcast might ultimately come with an unnecessary price – violence. Just as those broadcasting appear childish, those listening on the opposite side might eventually reciprocate childishly when given an opportunity.

For the idea of Biafra to continue through many metamorphoses over the years and still engender response, whether positive or negative, more than fifty years later, is reason to listen to them. The voice may be childish, sometimes incoherent, vituperative and prone to condescension but it is a voice all the same, and listening despite the noise, would prove that we are not a zoo.

With so much potential in the land, it is pathetic that we have not been able to harness our human capital by creating a conducive environment for its fruition and consolidation.

Air force jet crashed in Kaduna 7 people were killed

A Nigerian Air Force aircraft, a Donnier 228, has crashed at the Old Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

It was gathered on Saturday that the aircraft, which took off from the Nigerian Air Force base, Kaduna, was heading for Abuja when it came down in the early hours of the day.

The military aircraft was said to have crashed into a residential building within the neighborhood NDA, igniting fears that the casualty figure could be high.

It was gathered that there were no survivors in the crash.

The Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Dele Alonge, confirmed the crash to our correspondent on the telephone but did not give details.

He said the NAF would issue a statement on it later.
Our correspondent learnt that the seven people on board the aircraft, comprising the crew members and the passengers, died in the crash.

It was gathered the captain, the co-pilot, the board technician and four passengers were involved in  the crash.

Meanwhile, combat ready soldiers have condoned off the barracks, preventing people from gaining access to the area.

The North-West Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Musa Ilallah, confirmed the crash and the casualty figure.

Do you believe that Biafra is here?

Someone who had read a piece I wrote some time ago titled, “How I became a Nigerian” confronted me with this question. I guess the query arose because I’d indicated that Biafra was the first country I came to know as a child. I actually did have to become Nigerian. Before I address the question, let me state something by way of definition to eliminate all ambiguity about what Biafra is.

For anything to be worthy of belief, it’ll either be a personality, an entity defined by socio-political and geographical parameters, or an idea usually encapsulated in a concept, philosophy or ideology.

The Biafra in question is certainly not a personality nor is it a political unit with cadastral limits. That Biafra expired in the wee hours of 1970. That leaves us with the issue of Biafra as an idea. That, I think is the one I’ll be dealing with.

To get a grip on the concept of Biafra, we must revisit the unfortunate events of the ill-fated first republic.
After being granted that dubious independence in 1960 and becoming a republic two years later, the ship of the Nigerian state careened from one crisis to another in its elusive search for stability and legitimacy. And you can trust politicians on this count: their characteristic hubris and unbridled corruption will always nudge the polity to the edge of the precipice. In 1966, a group of ambitious, middle-level army officers took one look at the emerging scenario and elected to intervene; violently. Through a quirk of fate, the putsch was successful around the federation save in the south-east. Incidentally, the ring leaders of the initiative were mostly of south-eastern extraction or more specifically, Igbo. On the whole, that audacious initiative failed; as I believe it was destined to. The first republic effectively expired ushering in military rule headed by the inimitable General John Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi: an Igbo man.

Predictably, there were reprisals against the Igbo and their interests especially in Northern Nigeria. Thousands of Igbo were horrendously slaughtered in a pogrom that was a precursor to the genocidal war. Aguiyi-Ironsi himself was to pay the supreme price in a well articulated military ambush in Ibadan. He was felled alongside his host, Lt. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi; military governor of the Western Region at the time.

The Igbo, no longer assured of safety outside their homeland were compelled to make the unpalatable and precarious journey home; abandoning all their properties and investment. The cerebral Lt. Col. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, then military governor of Nigeria’s Eastern Region, was under intense pressure to extract some form of guarantee for the safety of the Igbo across the federation. There were numerous summits and conferences convened in a bid to hammer out a compromise. In spite of the celebrated meeting of all stakeholders in Aburi, Ghana, then Nigerian head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon could offer no such guarantee as the killing and persecution of the Igbo continued unabated. It was this dire situation that forced the hand of the south-eastern leadership towards secession thereby declaring the sovereign state of Biafra in 1967. The horrors of the 30-month long civil war are properly documented for the benefit of all who’re not afraid to confront the crude truth.

From the foregoing, it is clear that Biafra happened as a predictable reaction to a peculiar interplay of events. If there had been no coup in 1966, there would have been no pogrom and the military would never have come to power. There would certainly have been no Biafra.

I’d like to draw an analogy from the hallowed institution of marriage. With over two decades under my belt, I can say without fear of contradiction that no one approaches the sacred altar of matrimony with the faintest thoughts of a separation or divorce. I wasn’t thinking of divorce on the 12th of December 1992 and I’m not considering it even now. That’s simply because I’m enjoying a little happiness in here. Unfortunately, I can’t make the same claim for many of my friends and associates. For many, marriage has become something to be endured. But it was not designed to be so. So when marriage ceases to deliver on the promise of happiness and bliss, the only option, painful and stigmatizing as it is, is separation.
I recently watched a friend go through the gruesome process of divorce. The day the court finally dissolved the union, my friend came apart completely. That’s why God hates divorce. That explains why the Church has no procedure for annulling the marriage covenant. In there, it’s “until death do you part.” But the reality on ground is that the divorce courts are very busy.

Governments exist for the welfare of the people. The legitimacy of any government is hinged on its continuing ability to provide for and protect its citizens. Governments must create and sustain the enabling environment for the people to thrive and realize their deepest aspirations. The right of a people to determine what those aspirations are is unimpeachable. So also is the process of realizing them. That’s what democracy is all about; the very same thing exotically christened self-determination. Those rights are inalienable.

Biafra wasn’t an original idea. It wasn’t something that was scrupulously articulated. It was merely a reaction to a government that had failed to rise to the demands of the occasion: a default solution, if you may. In essence, Biafra represents the resolve of a people to demand for a better deal. That’s what started in Tunisia, swept away the well-entrenched Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and has Libya’s Gaddafi’s future hanging by a thread. Syria’s Al-Assad and Yemen’s Saleh are fairing no better. Despotic regimes everywhere are predictably jittery, and why not?

When people say the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable, I assume the well being and security of all Nigerians have been factored in. I assume that that unity is founded on the bedrock of the peoples’ unalloyed and unforced commitment to the nation’s growth and sustenance. And the nation’s primary focus must be to provide the greatest good for the greatest number. Where governments falter or fail in this fundamental task, they lose the moral basis to demand the peoples’ commitment, and the unity of such an entity becomes accordingly compromised.

Husbands are obligated to love their wives while wives are enjoined to submit to their husbands. Even though a wife’s submission should not ordinarily be predicated on a husband’s love, we know all too well that the performance of one encourages the other. So a husband who has ceased to love and cherish his wife cannot simply turn around to demand submission. And if such a woman approaches the courts demanding the quashing of the union, he would have no tenable basis to oppose it.

As with husband and wife, so it is with a nation and her peoples. I hate divorce as perfectly as I detest the idea of secession. But I’ll have no qualms recommending both options if the circumstances so demand. The Boko Haram exponents are well within their right to demand to live how they wish. What they do not possess is the right to injure other people’s interests in the process of actualizing theirs. The charter of an organization is not complete without a provision for opting out. If you can subscribe, you must also be able to unsubscribe.

So do I believe in Biafra? I think I answered that question a very long time ago.

Betrayal led Buhari to deny Amaechi SGF, If Amaechi can fight Jonathan his Brother

“If Amaechi can fight Jonathan, how are you sure that he will not fight Buhari and Tinubu, come 2019?” a social critic queried.

A cross section of Nigerians has aired their views with reasons, why President Muhammadu Buhari denied the Former Governor Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi the Post of Secretary General of the Federation, SGF or the Chief of Staff, COS.

Reacting on social media on Friday, a concerned Nigerian, Emeka Tochukwu opined that although Amaechi was one of the key financiers of the Buhari’s Presidential bid, he refused to see the hand writing on the wall because he decided to betray his brother (Goodluck Jonathan)

Eke Uchenna said: “From aspiration of being a Vice President to aspiration of SGF. Now all those are taken away. What next?’’

He added; “Amaechi, the Judas betrayer of his brother.”

Buhari on Wednesday approved the appointments of Babachir David Lawal as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff to the President and Hameed Ibrahim Ali (as Comptroller-General Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, in addition to other key appointments.

The 27 major appointments made so far by the administration have mostly been northerners.
Amaechi who is alleged to have spent N30 billion funding the presidential election of Buhari has been left out in the cold.
During the party primaries in December 2014, Amaechi was seen rallying support for his preferred candidate-Buhari-forcing many to speculate that he would be tapped for the position of the Vice President.

All that turned out to be a load of bullocks, as the General after being pressed by his benefactor Tinubu, picked the latter’s former attorney general-Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to the surprise of many party members and neutrals.

Amaechi’s misfortune, had prompted the State Chairman, of PDP in Rivers State Felix Obuah, to issue out a statement saying that Amaechi was living in a fool’s paradise, having been deceived by the APC leaders.

Obuh stressed that the paramount interest of Ahmed Tinubu and his cabal, was only in creating avenues for squandering Rivers tax payers, money and resources without conceding any sensitive top elective position to Amaechi

“The Party recalls that Amaechi, after spending billions of Rivers money, lobbying for the National Chairmanship slot of the Party, was rigged out, he further wasted over N17b canvassing for the emergence of the former military dictator, Gen. Buhari, to pave way for his selection as Vice Presidential candidate.

“While the Governor was struggling to recuperate from the shock of his rejection as Buhari’s running mate, the APC leaders have just thrown in another banana peel, naming him (Amaechi) as campaign manager, only to encourage the prodigal son to continue to milk dry the resources of Rivers State,” the statement had read in part.

According to an analyst; “Amaechi was compensated as the town crier of the APC.”

He was in fact handed the role of the Director General of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Organisation,

According to a source “It was a big shock to him. This is a man who almost laid down his life, fought Jonathan his kinsmen to the end, spent billions of his own money and state money to ensure Buhari emerged, and is treated this way? Who is the new SGF, where was he when we were working hard for Buhari.”
According to another close ally “He has left Nigeria, he was so upset, I think to just cool off and think of what to do next because in Rivers, Wike has shut him out, and there is nothing much in Abuja.”

One Sylvanus Prime wrote: “Buhari ministerial list is like admission list, Amaechi has failed the merit list. Let him wait for supplementary list.”

Amity Prince said: “The only way Buhari can enhance his corruption war is to dump this troublemaker called Amaechi”

Others who expressed their feelings said Amaechi cannot collaborate with outsiders to fight his relatives. He has been used and dumped.

“If Amaechi can fight Jonathan, how are you sure that he will not fight Buhari and Tinubu, come 2019?” a social critic queried.

The Ape Obasanjo is a liar and economic illiterate – Says Soyinka

The Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said that he has no respect for Obasanjo, who he described as an indescribable liar.

Soyinka carpeted the former president on Friday night when he was responding to questions during a programme tagged: ‘An evening with Wole Soyinka’, organised by Globacom.

Asked to respond to Obasanjo’s assessment of him in the former president’s book titled ‘My Watch’, where he notes that Soyinka is good at hunting and wines but a political illiterate, Soyinka said that he was hardly bothered because he believed that Obasanjo was a liar.

Soyinka said, “Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion. But the question is: ‘Who respects the opinion of a liar?’

I can spend the whole night proving that he is a liar. Obasanjo was once described by an economist, the late Prof Ojetunji Aboyade, as an economic illiterate. They nearly ‘went into blow’ that night. It was Prof. Mabogunje who separated them.

“So, if an economic illiterate calls somebody a political illiterate, no problem at all.

“In ‘ My Watch’, Obasanjo told the first lie when he said he deplored lies. Anybody who said he never plotted to have an unconstitutional third term in office, even as a writer, I need a word to describe him.”

The former President and the Nobel laureate have been in a running battle taking swipes at each other over a lingering issue between them. Obasanjo had once stated that Soyinka once vowed that the differences between the two of them would not be resolved on earth.
Obasanjo had also in his book, My Watch, and at public events described Soyinka as an expert in wine matters than in political analysis.

He had said, “For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot-on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him. His friends and loved ones will always be right and correct, no matter what they do or fail to do. He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful aparo (guinea fowl) hunter than a political critic.

“Wole Soyinka is a gifted man. I have always acknowledged that but he is a bad politician and I have also always said that. That is my own point of view. He may agree with it, he may not agree with it. For instance, I know that if I want somebody to give me the best wine, one of the people I will go to is Wole Soyinka and I know he has a taste for good wine and I said that in the book.”

However, last year December, shortly after the book went public, Soyinka had, in a piece titled, ‘Watch and Pray, Watch and Prey’, vehemently protested such a description (of him), calling Obasanjo ‘’an expert liar, who lies to boost his ego.’’

But in an interview granted a private television station, Channels, on a programme tagged, ‘Book Club’, Obasanjo, while holding on to his words, said what he wrote about Soyinka was purely his view, adding that Soyinka did not have to agree with him.

Arewa the Northern leaders move to block implementation of confab report

A year after the final report of the National Conference convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan was submitted for implementation, there are frantic efforts being made by northern leaders to prevent President Muhammadu Buhari from touching the over 900-page document.

The National Conference was inaugurated by ex-President Jonathan on March 17, 2014 in Abuja, with about 492 delegates that represented a cross-section of Nigerians including professional bodies. The conference was headed by retired Chief Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, assisted by a Vice Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi and Secretary, Dr Valerie Azinge.

The conference, which lasted for five months, was largely supported by groups and individuals advocating a restructuring of the nation. As a result, the body deliberated on such issues as Devolution of Power, Political Restructuring and Forms of Government, National Security, Environment; Politics and Governance, Law, Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Reform. Others include Social Welfare, Transportation, Agriculture, Society, Labour and Sports, Public Service, Electoral Matters, Foreign Policy and Diaspora Matters, Land Tenure Matters and National Boundary, Trade and Investment, Energy, Religion, Public Finance and Revenue Generation, among others.

Saturday Sun gathered that while some groups and political interests in the South of the country are still mobilizing secretly to begin agitation for the implementation of the confab report, prominent northern leaders who felt that the region was shortchanged at the summit have begun to put pressure on President Buhari to abandon the recommendations of the report.

According to one of the northern leaders championing the thrashing of the report under the aegis of the pro-North Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF): “If you look at the representation at the conference and its recommendations, you will discover that the North was not treated fairly. So, it will be unfair to an entire region with the largest population within the Nigerian federation to fold its arms and allow the implementation of the lopsided recommendations.”

The ACF chieftain, who does not want his name in print, added: “The organisers of the conference know from the beginning that it was going to be an exercise in futility because it was designed to achieve a pre-conceived political and economic agenda by one or two sections of the country.”

Giving credence to the move to abort the implementation of the confab report, National Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), and former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie told Saturday Sun that the forum will soon meet President Buhari over the report of the 2014 national conference.

He said: “I was the chairman of the northern delegates to the 2014 national conference, so I can tell you anything about it, but I cannot tell you whether President Muhammadu Buhari will implement the confab report or not. I can only speak about it if we meet with Buhari on the report. And we will soon meet him.

“However, it could be recalled that the total figure of nominees for the conference from different groups was 492, out of which the North despite its large size and higher population was given only 189 delegates while the South had 303 delegates and later increased to 305.

“This already placed the northern region in a disadvantaged position in terms of representation and voting on issues that affected the North.

“Furthermore, we went to the conference with no other agenda except to ensure that Nigeria remains one indivisible country with equal opportunities for all.

“We also stuck to the ACF’s roadmap of peace, unity and development which we submitted to the Northern Governors Forum after a two-day workshop in 2011”, he said.

Ohaneze Youth Buhari has demonstrated his hatred for Ndigbo

The Ohaneze Youth Council, OYC, has expressed deep anger over President Muhammadu Buhari’s latest appointment for the positions of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, as well as the Chief of Staff to the President.

The group said recent developments had indications that Buhari was pursuing ethnic agenda and that he was not ready to accommodate Ndigbo in his government.

President Buhari had after several months of keeping Nigerians in suspense, announced the appointment of Engr. Babachir David Lawal from Adamawa State as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; as well as Alhaji Abba Kyari for the position of Chief of Staff to the President.
Others appointed included Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd.)- Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service; Mr. Kure Martin Abeshi – Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service; Senator Ita S.J. Enang – SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) and Hon. Suleiman A. Kawu -SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of representatives).
None of the positions came the way of the South-East region.

In a reaction, the Ohaneze Youth Council said the President had demonstrated his hatred for Ndigbo, even after he had said he belonged to nobody but belonged to everybody.

President of the of the OYC, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, in a press statement jointly signed with the group’s National Public Relations Officer, Hon. Obinna Adibe, said the appointments were totally unacceptable to Ndigbo, maintaining that they violated the principle of federal character, which is enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.
“We stand to condemn this glaring hatred for Ndigbo by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. We recall that apart from several other appointments, Buhari’s government has also appointed Service Chiefs and in a similar manner, he sidelined the South-East zone.

“As if that was not enough, the long-awaited position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, has come at last and this government deemed nobody from the South-East qualified enough to occupy that position, which was earlier zoned to Ndigbo.

“We are indeed shocked by this turn of events, which are totally at variance with Mr. President’s earlier stand that he was for nobody but that he was for everybody. We are at a loss where this statement fits in, considering all the actions he has taken so far, which are all against the interest of Ndigbo.

“Where is the justice; where is the equity; where is the one Nigeria? How long shall Ndigbo be pushed to the walls?
“The Ohaneze Youth Council is saying it loud and clear that these appointments are unacceptable to us and we urge Mr. President to reverse them, otherwise it would appear that there is a grand-design to annihilate the Igbos out of the political and economic system in this country.”

Isiguzoro further stated that apart from the neglect Ndigbo had suffered in the area of appointments, it was also curious that the Buhari-led government had suspended work on the second Niger Bridge.

He stressed that “all these are pointers to the fact that we are becoming endangered species in Nigeria. The Second Niger Bridge is a project that touches on the economic life of the entire South-East and we find it curious that the Federal Government is not ready to attach any priority to it.

“We use this medium to urge Mr. President to right these wrongs and move the country forward as one. Tribalism has never paid Nigeria and this period will not make any difference”.

The terrorist Government of Buhari have suspends Second Niger Bridge Construction

The ongoing construction of The Second Niger Bridge may be suspended until the integrity of the bridge is sorted out, the federal government said on Wednesday.

According to the Director-General of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Aminu Diko, the reasons range from the actual cost of the bridge, non-issuance of the Certificate of Compliance, non-compensation of the host community and non-adherence to due process in the award of contract were also responsible for the stoppage.

Mr Diko told journalists after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock that the bridge was one of the issues discussed in the meeting.

Noting the importance of the road that linked the south east and south west, Diko however asked the people to be patient with the government.

“We did say yes it is in the commission for regulatory oversight,” he said. “We have been discussing the transaction with the Ministry of Works. But before it can be finalized, the commissioner has to give a certificate of compliance, but we haven’t even done that because we have seen a lot of issues that we are uncomfortable with. We are talking with the Ministry of Works for them to correct it.

The communities around that area are clamouring that their lands have been taken and that they have not been compensated adequately. As a matter of fact, we got a letter from Onitsha Traditional Council complaining that they have not been adequately represented in this transaction. These kind of issues, we are not saying that something has not been done properly, but we need to be convinced that these few problems are sorted properly. We will also talk about the actual cost of the bridge; eventually we have asked the Ministry of Works to review it and justify how much the project should cost.”

August 3 1966: There Is No Basis For Nigerian Unity

August 3 1966: “there is no basis for Nigerian unity, which has been so badly rocked, not only once but several times.” –Lt Col Yakubu Gowon
Having said the facts and publicly stated the truth of the matter, Gowon proceeded to act contrary to this living reality of Nigeria. He would drag the peoples to a war which took millions of lives and wrecked his Nigeria forever. Not content and obviously no wiser, Gowon would claim victory and continue to preach one Nigeria today, even as the war he started still rages on in all spheres of human existence, which for the peoples living in Nigeria, is a truly terrifying, misery-filled, bloody and charred Hell of an existence. And Nigeria and Gowon are still so eager to continue to blame the victims for that war: if he defeated the victims as he and Nigeria roundly claim, then, why is Nigeria still in flames today, forty-some years later, with the same pre-war issues fuelling the fire? Simple: it is the attempt to keep Nigeria one—in defiance of the truth—which is causing all the ills of Nigeria. “One Nigeria” is the problem with Nigeria; until it is defeated, Nigeria will know no peace and no salvation; the war goes on, in one deadlier form or another.

There is no basis for one-Nigeria. Gowon tells us that he was inspired on “one Nigeria” because his people turned G-O-W-O-N into “Go On With One Nigeria.” Like all superstitious fools and those who rationalize an evil act, he could not see how the omission of just a few characters from an expression could falsely proclaim Heaven when in fact it is Hell. How about “Go On WithOut Nigeria”?—“Go On WITHOUT One Nigeria”? Does that not specifically and truthfully fit the picture of Gowon’s most important epiphany, that there is no basis for unity in Nigeria?
BEFORE ABURI: the conveniently forgotten “National Conference”

By January 1967, political and social conditions in Nigeria were continuing to deteriorate rapidly, the only certainty being the Northern-led and dominated Nigerian Military and their full and total control of Nigeria. The ABURI meeting that month of the regional military leaders of Nigeria graciously hosted by General Ankara in Ghana and its decisions brought a rare but genuine beam of hope for Nigeria. But, it was Gowon who destroyed this Hope by reneging on the agreements, all but dismissing them as a frivolous exercise wherein he and other Northern leaders merely humored Ojukwu by “giving Ojukwu everything he [Ojukwu] asked for.” If it is assumed, as often ignorantly bandied around, that ABURI was solely Ojukwu’s imprint, how about “the Lagos Peace Conference” four months before ABURI?
On September 5 1966, well before Aburi, in response to ongoing and deepening social and political upheaval and continuing bloody ethnic cleansing exercise directed against Easterners residing in Northern Nigeria (mostly; but also, generally in the rest of Nigeria), Gowon’s Nigerian Military Government “initiated” a “National Conference” with Lagos as the venue. Each of the four Regions (East, West, Mid-West and North) would send three high-ranking representatives “to decide Nigeria’s political future.” A national Referendum would come out of such a meeting assuming there was agreement. So it was that on September 11 1966, a month after Gowon’s earlier quoted statement, 26 prominent Nigerians met to decide on whether there was any basis for Nigeria’s unity.
Skipping the reported hourly-daily deliberations and maneuvering as a topic for another day, here’s the tone of the reports for the outcome of the conference, as of September 17 1966: “Conference leans towards confederation” and Nigeria heads for a breakup into four virtually autonomous states bound only by a loose confederation.

So, in fact, Nigeria’s first National Conference compelled by the indolent lethal crisis had recommended complete Regional Autonomy. It was a verdict of “no basis for Nigeria’s unity.” This was in September 1966. This recommendation thus had preceded by 4 months ABURI which essentially prescribed the same solution. Parenthetically, this conference then also predates the variously named contemporary configurations and permutations of a putative Sovereign National Conference by 40 years or so. It, along with ABURI, should serve as an education and lesson for those today who think to fix beforehand the outcome of such a conference by assuming as a given the preservation of one-Nigeria: there is really no basis for unity of Nigeria.

But, as with Aburi, this (Lagos National Conference outcome) was not to be. Enter Gowon. The headline of the New York Times newspaper of Saturday, September 17, 1966 screams: “Gowon Opposes Confederation and Derails Conference”. Further read: “Under pressure from Gowon and his top aides, the civilians who make up the Northern delegation were reported to have backed away from confederation…Above all, the Northern militants in the army are said to be determined to thwart any move to split the army into four regional forces. These officers want a single army under tight national control.” (Recall that it is the same Northern officers who are by now still rampaging and still fishing out any remaining Igbo Military officers for instant execution!)
DIVISION RUNS DEEP: How the British saw it, what they knew and did
It is such a pity that the different peoples forced together as Nigeria refuse to acknowledge the depth of their differences, and want so much to pretend that such differences are not there, are not important, or can be ignored.

All over the world, different peoples are living side by side; but nowhere are they forced to live together against their will in a forced union that reveals every single day that it does not work. Forced, troubled and troublesome sociopolitical arrangements of sovereign import just do not happen anymore. Except under Slavery and or Colonialism. Or Nigeria.
Steeped in such a pretense and denial, some Nigerians like to borrow from successful nations by talking wistfully of Nigeria’s “Our founding fathers”. The fact is that those ”our founding fathers” being referred to never wanted one-Nigeria and had made consistently strong positional pronouncements on the matter as such. Is anyone listening? For that matter, facts, yes, evident facts reveal that Nigeria’s so called “our founding fathers” are no more than colonial British, with contemporary Britain acting like a successor.

An Irish author published this in his 1961 book about the colonial British impressions and attitudes
towards the peoples whom they would force into their impossible and macabre social experiment to be called Nigeria / one-Nigeria:
“The majority of the Fulani and Hausa of the North dislike the Southerners fundamentally. Historically the Northerners have always despised them, enslaved them and treated them cruelly, and above all regard them as inferiors. This was true particularly of the Ibos whom they considered savages. The memory of all this still lingers and is making the British policy of creating one Nigeria nation out of the three main Regions difficult enough. But the average British administrator in the North also feels much the same and cannot speak too critically of the Ibos and the Yorubas.”
Robert Collis (1900-1975) in “AFRICAN ENCOUNTER: A DOCTOR IN NIGERIA”, pp. 120-121. (Publisher: Scribner; First Edition (1961))
Quoted from the book, “Biafra War Revisited”, chapter 2 “THE BRITISH LEGACIES” p.12 by Egbebelu Ugobelu Second Edition (revised) 1994; Published by Obiesili Publishing Co, Spartanburg, SC 29306

This sums up the real situation and picture of Nigeria, right from the beginning, as it was seen and known by the British. Incidentally, it is only recently that the “Middle-Belt Northerners” have begun to realize that they, too, are in fact “Southerners”, in the eyes of the Hausa-Fulani. The entire picture indicts the British for their policy to force-create one-Nigeria from disparate peoples between whom one-national unity was, not just another “difficult enough” task but, downright impossible. And the British knew it then. They still know it now.
What, according to the same author (and taken from the same source), did the colonial British (and do the British) think of the North? Well, here…
“Here proud emirs, lordly princes, rule over vast areas, and the poor are very poor, and quite illiterate. But both still are part of a tradition which stretches back into history. It was, and is a way of life, a civilization utterly alien to ours, so different, in fact, that it has always been possible for Western gentlemen to live on easy terns with these Northern peoples, each respecting the others high qualities of honour and good manners. In this relationship there is no vulgar familiarity, no crossing the bar into the other's private life, but a mutual respect and honour.”

Robert Collis. AFRICAN ENCOUNTER P.195 (Publisher: Scribner; First Edition (1961))
Today, most Northern elite are mounting a strong public relation effort (and seem to be winning another [pyrrhic] victory at it) to misdirect the peoples of Nigeria and the stakeholders to think that the problem of Boko Haram is due to poverty, which poverty they would like the world to believe is somehow related to Southerners withholding what is due the North (if any sane person can even imagine that and how that might be possible, given who have aggressively controlled Nigeria thus far). But here above is the social and political landscape of Northern Nigeria as it appeared even before Nigeria became Nigeria; it is a landscape recorded by the British, a party which is friendly and sympathetic to the North, by the way; even though belonging to a civilization “utterly alien”, thus inadvertently justifying the branding of the British civilization as Boko Haram by the Boko Haram group.

What these Northern elite should stop pretending about is the fact that the North and the South are vastly and unbridgeably different, and it is not just a matter of who is poorer, where poverty as we know it is defined almost in purely Western Civilization terms and by Western Civilization standards, which Western Civilization is embraced by the South, and is so fundamentally alien to the North that Boko Haram would label it what it really is to them: anathema—a veritable sin, to be forbidden in the North! There is in fact no compelling reason why Western Civilization should not offend the North: the worldviews and life-views are so dramatically and drastically different; more so when it is forced upon the North through the forced vehicle of a forced union of aliens and incompatibles called Nigeria. There has never been, and should never be a basis for the unity of Nigeria: that’s what Boko Haram seeks to remind everyone of, including and especially pretenders who are busily doing their pretend-spin dance. For that matter, the Northern elite should draw no comfort in the British crediting the Northern system with “high qualities of honour and good manners”; it is hardly a compliment by Western Civilization standards to a system which generates and embraces this level of poverty described by the same British, and which the same Northern elite now use as rationalization for the despicable destructive reactionary acts of Boko Haram today. The Northern system was already that way before Nigeria was created.

How did the British with their cultural antithesis to the North remain friendly and sympathetic to the same North? Well, the British left the North to the North’s own ways: they, the British, would not attempt to change the North, nor would they for one moment accept the North’s ways. It is a matter of their respecting the ways and traditions of the North, without entertaining any thoughts of ever adopting the ways of the North themselves: stay in your own space and we stay in ours, while we do ugly business (of Nigeria / Southern domination) on terms; no basis for uniting, assimilating or mixing as it were, and no reason to; but respect for the other’s ways and stance. That’s how the British did it. Yet, the same British would force on a structure called Nigeria wherein such different sociocultural and political entities are not retained in their own respective different spaces and there is no respect as such, let alone, “mutual”. Thus, with malicious deliberation and intent, the British created Nigeria—“this relationship” in which there is now to be allowed “…vulgar familiarity,” and “…crossing the bar into the other's private life,” with neither “…mutual respect” nor “…honour”, to borrow the British’s own terms in the negative, as quoted above.

Such irony that in Britain today, Scotland, one of four nations making up UK, nations which already have substantial autonomy (called “Devolution” over there), is getting ready for a Referendum for complete Independence. Even if the British do not want or like that, the Scots have a right to it, and no one will contest such right or the exercise of such a right. Whether the referendum passes or not is not the issue; even if it does not pass, it is predicted that the Scots will try again within 5 to 10 years, and yet this is not the issue.

The point—the issue—is that British peoples, even with so much more in common among them, including a shared heritage, worldview and values, can still exercise the right to separation and political independence; but the same British somehow do not see how the smothered peoples, different in every way, forced together into Nigeria—by the same British—can exercise the same right. What does that say about African peoples vis-à-vis their colonial masters? It is clear that, to borrow a British saying, “what is good for the goose should be good for the gander” does not and cannot apply when the British are dealing with Africans. What a colossal shame!

For the woes and calamities befalling Nigeria, a failed and genocidal State smothering the peoples, there is little time to ascribe villainy to any group, although it is obvious that Gowon and the colonial British and its successor policy-augmenters vie for that noxious prize. These parties know the fact and the Truth, but they push in the opposite direction, rooting for Darkness. What needs to be done is for the peoples to accept the rather obvious about Nigeria: there is in fact no basis for unity—never was, not now, and never will be. Having accepted that, with civility, the peoples need each to retrieve their own respective sovereignties and rescue each their humanity. Then, they may live side by side in mutual respect for one another’s ways, and one another’s space. Where and when they choose in mutuality, consent and respect to cooperate, let them agree and by such abide. Otherwise, and in all cases, let them remain each her own sovereign nation.

May 30 1967, Tuesday: Biafra is declared
Nigeria went to war in 1967 thinking and pretending that its fight was against Biafra and against secession. Nigeria defeated Biafra in the battlefield and celebrates victory, but remains and acts brain-damaged since then not because of wounds inflicted on it by Biafra, but because of ongoing battering by the real enemy—one-Nigeria. There is no basis for unity of Nigeria: that’s the truth and that’s the known fact; acting otherwise is to knock oneself out, which is precisely what Nigeria has done to itself. Biafra was right. Biafra is right. Biafra will always be right: peoples who are starkly different and especially who cannot get along should and will go their own different ways; no force can keep them together forever. It is a natural survival and existential imperative. Self Determination, the new reality of our times, in fact takes this a step further: you don’t even have to not get along; it is the inalienable and unconditional right of every ethnic group to take full control and charge of its own national destiny, period. That’s what Scottish people of Britain are demonstrating today. The peoples of Nigeria should copy and follow. Biafra has.

May 30: Biafra Day, Self Determination Day, everyday
No one solves a problem by trying to kill the solution to the problem. Nigeria, in waging war against Biafra, merely makes war against the solution to the problem called Nigeria. At the end of such a warring day where efforts have been directed against the wrong target, the problem remains, and stays on for the remainder of days. At the same time, the solution also lives on, undefeated (there is no way to defeat the solution of an extant problem!), waiting for the day of the inevitable, the day of its acceptance, signifying finally the end of the problem. Then, the peoples can be liberated, free at last. - Oguchi Nkwocha.
When other tribes make their poisonous utterances, it's never a bad issue. But if a Biafran does, there is everything wrong with it. When Sarduana of Sokoto (who is respected so much as a god by his people) showed his hatred, it doesn't matter, when Oba represented his people's interest recently, it was termed political; but when a Biafran picks on these and more of the perpetual hatred meted on us, it becomes a threat. Yes, let it be! We can't continue to be on the defending side of all these blows and keep pretending that all is well... let's make for the offensive at least for once... and believably for all also.

There would be much peace if I and other people of other tribes are allowed to get back to where we were before the British messed us all up for their gain.
The deceit, nepotism, tribalism, poverty, corruption, slavery etc are already unbearable.
Whether you're Biafra, Arewa, Oduduwa or whatever, you can function more effectively as such with your religion(s)/culture and other custom, values and belief system than staying put in this colony that has become very unbearable especially by islamic fundamentalists.

It makes no sense building an edifice on a shallow and weak foundation.

Compromise Uwazurike your member was killed by Police what is your action?

Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB) has condemned the alleged killing of its members by the Police in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The group stated that it was an act of wickedness for the police in Onitsha to kill two defenceless civilians who are also its members.

MASSOB also said that four its members were still in hospital over injuries sustained during a clash with police along Oguta Road, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Daily Independent had reported that two members of MASSOB were feared dead on Friday after they clashed with the Nigerian Police from Inland Town Police Station at Oguta Road, Onitsha.

MASSOB Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, said that a team of policemen drafted from Central Police Station and Inland Town last Friday “on sighting the convoy of members of Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB) opened fire on them and killed two persons, Soronna Oke and Chukwuma Nwafor.
Mocha said that four members who sustained bullet wounds included, Uchechukwu Eze, Chinecherem Oganga, Raphael Ani, and Stephen Anene, were being treated by MASSOB while the police had taken the corpses of the MASSOB members to General Hospital, Onitsha.

The MASSOB spokesman said that the incident occurred near the Queen of the Rosary College (QRC) along Oguta Road as their members were returning from a meeting.

He condemned the killing of defenceless citizens who had neither intention of attacking security agents nor breach public peace and urged the state Commissioner of Police to rid the force of bad elements that derive pleasure in wasting the lives of innocent Nigerians.

Dictator Buhari: Nigerians are worried about their new President

For a man, President Muhammadu Buhari who once led a coup that ended his country’s path to a second republic; who once  suspended the constitution and ruled as a despot –  all that glitters may not just be gold.  Prior to his election, the All Progressive Congress (APC) had promised Nigerians that their candidate – an ex-dictator  had been intellectually refurbished to undertake the challenges of the representative system. However, barely 30 days after taking office, Nigerians are worried about this new leader and his single-handed approach so far on essential issues of governance.

Besides his inability to communicate guidelines, critics and observers are worried that President Buhari who is yet to name a single minister or adviser has resumed duties unaccompanied; and has been randomly verbalizing policies without applicable process, and without consideration of mandatory relevant factors. For instance, his recent directive to dissolve the board of the state oil company as an attempt to fight corruption in the industry was immediately faulted as redundant and constitutionally unnecessary.  According to the “Petroleum Act,” the board stood dissolved the moment erstwhile Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, left office. This serves as an indication that President Buhari does not articulate the rules of public engagement in a democracy.

Two weeks ago, President Buhari without consultation with the appropriate sectors, went on the air to declare that his country's treasury was "virtually empty," claiming that the previous administration had stolen billions of dollars. But the immediate past minister of national planning, Dr Abubarka Sulaiman quickly deprecated these claims as inaccurate, expressing with physical proofs, that the former regime left about $30 billion before handing over. Similarly, last weekend, Babs Omotowa, the chief executive of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG), claimed that the company paid $1.6 billion in dividends to the Buhari government, adding that the President was either hiding the correct amount paid to his government in order to justify his claim of inheriting “an empty treasury” or that the NLNG was playing a game on Nigerians.
Yesterday, the newly inaugurated Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki opened up on plans made by unnamed individuals to kidnap and prevent him from emerging the senate president. It may be recalled that President Buhari and his party members chose another candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila for this position.  Dr. Saraki however, outmaneuvered their plans by arriving at the facility as early as 6am, stayed in a car parking lot till the resumption of house business. Hence, his emergence as the senate president came as a surprise to both President Buhari and his party.

In the past week or so, Nigerians have suffused  the social media threads with frustrations and  expressions of disappointment about the direction of the regime so far in bringing about a proposed transformation. Citizens who at this time rely on ill-informed party bloggers to learn about important government policies now question a disconnection between their new leader and pertinent engagements of the representative process.

To make it worse, a newly inaugurated 8th National Assembly expected to collaborate with the presidency on ministerial appointments deliberated only on their huge allowances and adjourned for four weeks. The APC had initially claimed that Buhari was waiting on the National Assembly to convene so he could present his team but before the recess, ministerial appointments remained an obscure gamble. The Deputy Senate President, Sen Ike Ekweremadu, in response to a public outcry twitted, “We will reconvene once the Ministerial list is ready.” Internal party sources claim that an in-house tussle between the President and party stalwarts over choice of ministerial positions have grounded his appointments. “The President must remember that he is no longer a dictator but a civilian president, and must respect the process,” a senior party member told the International Guardian.

President Buhari’s issues may be more than just his autocratic demeanor. His skills to undertake the new leadership challenges remain another factor that may further jeopardize his chances to succeed. For instance, in his first 14 days in the job,   Buhari surprised the entire country with 14 exceptional executive tasks. He held five private meetings to get hold of the national security and intelligence; five secret meetings to initiate a transfer of the nation’s armory to Borno – his location preference; one oversea trip, and three major shameful oratory blunders. In  several dishonorable speech miseries, he had referred to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel as President Michelle and referred to Germany as West Germany.

Yet, without doubt, Nigerians have every reason to worry about this leader.  In a complex economy, installing a leader without relevant skills is like hiring a carpenter in an Intensive Care Unit to perform surgery. A leader who swaggered the transformation mantra as an electioneering promise must at least deliver some basic skills such as; transparency with public issues, collaboration with subordinates, and funny enough, the ability to appropriately identify names of friendly countries, and their leaders.

There is obviously a confusion in the Nigeria’s leadership suite, and the consequences have punctuated the running of the system. One thing is to rustle power, another thing is to manage it. Truly, Buhari and APC are confused about “change.” they are subjugated by the demands of the transformation process they professed, and they are disgracefully overwhelmed by their own campaign promises and how and where to start. As a remedy, it must be noted that; in the world of executive governance, confusion is not a taboo but a challenge that can be managed through reconciling ambiguities, admitting to contradictions, and resolving them while still maintaining a functioning capacity. An existing incompatible Buhari/APC team cannot overcome this shortfall through their current deception of the masses, playing hide-and-sick with critical issues of public policy, and engaging in fruitless media attack of a predecessor that had long gone.
